For my song, I chose “I’m Not Alright” by Sanctus Real. The lyrics move me because it is what I believe. I don’t mean to offend anyone, and I’m sorry if I do. God is a big part in my life and this song focuses on how without him, we’re not strong. We break down easily. We are full of weaknesses and the need to impress the people around us, whether we’re aware of it or not.
“If weakness is a wound
That no one wants to speak of
Then “cool” is just how far we have to fall”
When I’m broken or falling apart, is when I’m led to God. It’s when I realize how I need to be closer to him again. I need to have that personal relationship with again.
“I’m not alright
I’m broken inside, broken inside
And all I go through
It leads me to you, it leads me to you”
He doesn’t take away life’s problems, but I believe his love takes away the pain of them.
“I am not immune
I only want to be loved
But I feel safe behind the firewall
Can I lose my need to impress?”
This song is full of emotion because it talks about that time before you get into God, before his love washes over you, the time you feel most alone.
“I’m not alright
I’m broken inside, broken inside
And all I go through
It leads me to you, it leads me to you
I’m not alright, I’m not alright, I’m not alright...that’s why I need you”
I’m broken inside, broken inside
And all I go through
It leads me to you, it leads me to you
I’m not alright, I’m not alright, I’m not alright...that’s why I need you”
I need my strength, the one I lean on. I need the love of my savior, Jesus Christ.
I really appreciate your interpretation, because as I listened to the song it had such a tone of desperation and need. I am glad that you have found a source of strength. You explanation makes it clear that faith sustains you.
